RUDOLF BARTEL

The late Rudolf Bartel of Drake, Sask. was born on June 25, 1883 at Hillsboro, Kan. Here he spent his early youth and young manhood, coming to Canada in 1906.

He took up a homestead in the Drake district where he farmed until 1924, when he moved to the village of Drake. He then took over the local telephone office, and later he also operated a shoe repair business in town.

Upon the confession of his faith he was baptized at the age of 20 and received as a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church at Hillsboro, Kan. Later he joined the North Star Mennonite Church at Drake, where he remained faithful to the end.

He took up a homestead in the 1924 to Martha Jeschke. Three sons were born to this marriage.

Having been in failing health for some time, he was admitted to the General Hospital in Regina for treatment. Here he quietly passed away on July 14. He reached the age of 79 years and 19 days.

Those that mourn the loss of a loved one are: His beloved wife, three sons, Oren and Donald and families of Regina, and Lowell and family of Rosthern; four grandchildren; two brothers, Paul of Govan and Ben of Drake; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Jantz, Saskatoon, Mrs. Julia Bartel, Drake, Mrs. Jake Rempel, Niperwin, and a large company of relatives and friends.

The funeral service was conducted at the North Star Mennonite Church with Rev. Paul Schroeder in charge, assisted by Rev. E. S. Bartel.
