DAVID BUSCHERT

David Buschert, 78, of Goshen, Ind., died Nov. 1, 2010. He was born Jan. 22, 1932, to Chester and Mary Edna (Snyder) Buschert near Preston, Ont.

He married Joyce Stutzman of Milford, Neb., on Dec. 28, 1954.

He received an associate’s degree from Hesston (Kan.) College, a bachelor’s degree from Goshen College and a degree in civil engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology, Fort Wayne. He retired in 1996 as a civil engineer from Columbia Gas of Ohio.

He and Joyce lived in the Toledo, Ohio, area for 26 years, where they were members of Toledo Mennonite Church. In 2002 they moved to South Bend, where they were members of Kern Road Mennonite Church. In April of this year they moved to the Greencroft Community in Goshen.

He enjoyed photography, reading and travel, but his lifelong hobby was his interest in trains and railroads. After moving to South Bend he became a member of Hesston Steam Museum in Hesston, Ind., where he spent many enjoyable hours volunteering. In the past few years his health problems prevented him from living life to the fullest, but he was accepting and appreciative of what he was still able to enjoy. He was a gentle and loving man.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Beth Hooley and her husband, Mark, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Jill Kennel of South Bend; and a granddaughter, Nadia Zaid of Mandoza, Argentina.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Donald Buschert.

Funeral services were held at Goshen College Mennonite Church.
