Early M. B. Missionary To China Field Dies
Hillsboro, Kan. — Word has been received here that Rev. Peter D. Kiehn, one of the first Mennonite Brethren missionaries to enter China, died May 3 in Los Angeles, Calif. He was 78.
Rev. Kiehn went to China in 1911 under the China Mennonite Mission Society. The Society was supported by various Mennonite conferences including the Mennonite Brethren conference. Rev. and Mrs. Kiehn went to China in 1944 under the M. B. Board of Foreign Missions but had to leave the country in 1946 because of the political situation and Rev. Kiehn's health.
The Kiehns were long-time members of the Hillsboro M. B. Church and had recently requested the transfer of their membership to the City Terrace M. B. church in Los Angeles. The memorial service was held in Los Angeles on May 7.
