Collision Takes Life of Berne Mother

Berne, Ind. — A car-truck collision in Decatur, Ind. on Dec. 8 claimed the life of Mrs. Elaine Baumgartner Lantz, 48, well-known Berne resident and mother of three children.

Dale Lantz, 50, her husband, and their 11-year-old son Richard were seriously injured in the crash and are patients in a Fort Wayne hospital. Mr. Lantz suffered numerous fractures, including multiple fractures of the jaw. His son has a badly fractured right leg.

Also surviving Mrs. Lantz are two daughters, Janis and Virginia, both students at Bluffton College, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer W. Baumgartner of Berne. Mr. Baumgartner is president of the First Bank of Berne and chairman of the Bluffton College Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Lantz was an active member of the First Mennonite Church here. Funeral services were conducted at the church Dec. 11 by Rev. Gordon Neuenschwander and Rev. Marvin Zehr.
