Lancaster County Farmer, 78, Killed In Tractor Accident

Ephrata, Pa. — A tractor accident near here the evening of April 22 claimed the life of Walter M. Martin, 78, farmer of rural Ephrata.

Police reported that Martin was using his tractor with front end lift to move stones at his farm on Cocalico Creek Road when the machine overturned on an incline, pinning him underneath. Death was caused by a crushed chest.

He had lived in this area most of his life and was a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church, where he was a former trustee and member of the building committee. Funeral services were held at the church on Saturday forenoon, April 26.

Surviving in the immediate family are his widow, the former Martha Eby; two daughters and five son; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
