MRS. DAN A. MARTIN

Alice E. Martin, daughter of George and Mary (Miller) Yoder, was born in Elkhart County, Ind. on March 6, 1883. She peacefully passed away on Sept. 1, 1961 at the hospital in Hopedale, Ill. at the age of 78 years, five months and 26 days. She had been in the hospital since July 28, at which time he suffered a paralytic stroke. Although the last six weeks of her life on earth were unpleasant, she bore them patiently.

In her youth she accepted the Lord Jesus as her Saviour and united with the Shore Mennonite Church near Shipshewana, Ind.

On Jan. 1, 1908 she was united in marriage to Dan A. Martin near Elmdale, Mich. Following her marriage she transferred her membership to the Hopedale Mennonite Church, and remained faithful to the end.

She leaves to mourn her departure her sorrowing her companion; one son and three daughters, Orva E. and Ida E. (Mrs. Simon Kropf), both of the Hopedale community, Elsie E. (Mrs. Reuben Kennell) and Eileen I. (Mrs. Clarence Kennell), both of Roanoke, Ill.; one sister Edna, Mrs. George Dintaman of LaGrange, Ind.; 24 grandchildren, one foster grandchild, 12 great-grandchildren and two foster great-grandchildren.

An infant son, Wilbert E., preceded her in death at the age of two days. Also preceding her were three sisters, Elizabeth, Elnora and Alta (her twin), and one brother Edward.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 4, 1961 at 9:45 a.m. at the Orva Martin home and at 10:30 a.m. at the Hopedale Mennonite Church, in charge of Ben Springer, Dan Zook and Ivan Kauffmann. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
