• Rev. Lonnie Smith, 50, founder and pastor of the Westside Baptist Church in Hutchinson and long active as an evangelist, died Aug. 20 at the Lyons Hospital where he had been receiving treatment for leukemia. A native of the Pretty Prairie community, Rev. Smith conducted a three-week revival series in Hutchinson in August 1949, and returned the following month to organize the Westside Baptist Church at the YMCA. The church is now located on West 12th Street, and the funeral was conducted there Friday forenoon. Survivors include his widow and two daughters of the home; brothers Henry, John and Pete of Hutchinson, and two sisters, Mrs. Frieda Unruh of Bloomfield, Mont. and Mrs. Anna Strausz of South Hutchinson.
