• Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church for Mrs. Alice O. Simmons, 44, who was killed early Friday morning in a one-car accident eight miles east of Newton on the First Street Road. Rev. Arnold Epp officiated at the services. Mrs. Simmons was a passenger in a car driven by Willard J. King, 50, of rural Potwin when it struck a bridge. The car was torn in two and pieces were scattered over a considerable distance. Mrs. Simmons' body was found in the north ditch. King was lying in the south ditch, and was taken to Bethel Deaconess Hospital but his injuries were not believed serious. Mrs. Simmons was the former Alice Obera Koehn of Meno, Okla., and was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Goltry, Okla. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Wells of Topeka and Marjorie Simmons of Hutchinson; two sons, Donald and Gregory of Newton; her father, Ben Koehn of Newton; seven sisters and six brothers.
