FRED T. SCHULTZ

Fred T. Schultz was born June 7, 1889, in Bonnham [sic Bon Homme] County, Avon, So. Dak., the son Tobias T. and Katherine Buller Schultz. He was the fourth of a family of 11 children.

His early years were spent at the Avon area. Here he also finished his grammar school. Later he attended Freeman Academy in Freeman, S. Dak.

He came to Montana in 1910 and took up a homestead near Richey in 1911.

Upon the confession of his faith he was baptized by Rev. David A. Schultz on Feb. 8, 1914, and was received as a member of the Bethlehem Mennonite church of Bloomfield, Mont. Here he was a faithful member until his passing the evening of Nov. 22,1955.

On March 26, 1914 he was joined in holy matrimony to Ida Schwartz by Rev. P. P. Tschetter. To this union were born three children: Leon of Bloomfield, Lucille (Mrs. Earnest Poth) of Shiloh, Ohio, and Leola of Chicago, Ill.

During his lifetime he made various contributions to this community and church. On the community level his contribution to the Federal Land Bank was noteworthy. His outstanding service through the church was rendered as a member of the local committee soliciting for the two and one-half carloads of flour to be used for wartime relief in Europe. He often emphasized the uniqueness of the MCC motto, "In the Name of Christ." His last contribution to the Northern District Conference and the MCC was his service as chairman of the Vern Buller Project to Paraguay.

He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife Ida; his children, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Schultz, Robert, Loren, and Gerald, Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Poth and Arnold, and Leola Schultz; five sisters, Mr. [sic] Lizzie Becker of Davis, So. Dak., Nettie, Mrs. Isaac Boese of Springfield, So. Dak., Caroline, Mrs. Adolph Schmidt of Spring Valley, Minn.; Anna, Mrs. John DeRoos of Springfield, Tillie, Mrs. Chas. Trantina of Wagner, So. Dak.; three brothers, Ben of Freeman, So. Dak., Lee of Oakland, Calif. and Herman of Springfield; and a host of relatives and friends.

Even in this time of sorrow they mourn not as those without hope, being confident that in his lifetime of 66 years, five months and 15 days he had a full and enjoyable life, and has now departed to his eternal rest and spiritual reward.

Funeral services were conducted at the Bethlehem Mennonite Church on Nov. 28 by the former pastor, Rev. Geo. G. Dick of Winton, Calif.
