Katie Ackerman, daughter of Joseph Ackerman, was born near Regensburg, Germany Feb. 1, 1872, and died at her home near Hydro, Okla. Jan. 29, 1953, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 29 days. In her youth she confessed Christ as her Saviour and united with the (Old) Mennonite church of which she was a member to the end.

She came with her parents to America at the age of 13 and they settled near Flanagan, Ill. On May 28, 1891, she was married to Peter Schantz at Flanagan, Ill. To this union were born four sons and six daughters: Emma, Mrs. Joe Slagell of Thomas, Okla.; Chris, who died at the age of 13; William J. of Portland, Ore.; Alice, Mrs. John Slagell of Hydro, Okla.; Peter, who died in 1944 at the age of 43; Katie, who died at the age of 26; Joe, Annie, at home; Mary, Mrs. Everett Harris of Oklahoma City, Okla.

In 1892 they moved to Fulda, Minn., where they lived for ten years. They moved to Rolfe, Iowa, and lived there until 1908 when they moved to a farm north of Hydro, Okla., which has since been her home. Her husband died Nov. 18, 1940 at the age of 80 years, seven months and 29 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure two sons, five daughters, 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. She is the only surviver [sic] in her own family. Her husband's brothers also preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Pleasant View Mennonite church Feb. 1 at 2:30 p.m. with Bishop Alva Swartzendruber in charge. Burial was made in the cemetery nearby.
