FOUNDER OF ROSTHERN, SASKATCHEWAN DIED AT AGE OF 88

Altona, Manitoba. — Word was received here of the death of Gerhardt Ens, founder of the town of Rosthern, Sask., who passed away recently at the Mennonite Youth Farm there at the age of 88.

Coming from Russia, the land of his birth, Bro. Ens built the first house at Rosthern in 1893, and later was the storekeeper and justice of the peace there. In 1906 he was elected to the Saskatchewan legislature, and was re-elected in 1908. In later years he engaged in immigration work, traveling to Europe and the United States.
