Church Musician and Teacher Dies in Ohio

Bluffton, O. — Mrs. Esther Irene Emmert, a teacher and musician for many years in this community, died July 24 in Ohio State University Hospital. She had been ill for a prolonged period of time and suffered fatal complications from surgery.

A teacher ever since her graduation from Bluffton College in 1957, Mrs. Emmert worked with lower elementary grades for almost 15 years in Bluffton. She played violin in the Lima Symphony, sang in choirs, and was church organist at the First Mennonite Church, where she was a member. She also participated in several church committees.

Surviving Mrs. Emmert, 55, are her husband Paul, whom she married in 1941; three sons, Jan, Honolulu, Hawaii, James, Houston, Tex., and Richard, Tokyo, Japan; and two daughters, Mrs. Joan Carassi, Burlington, Vt. and Mrs. Sally Sorg, Columbus, O. Memorial services were held Sunday, Aug 1, in the First Mennonite Church.
