● Maria Wedel, 99, a resident of the Bethel Home for the Aged in Newton since 1970, died Sept. 4. Services were conducted Sept. 7 in Sister Frieda Memorial chapel with D. C. Wedel officiating. In 1919 she married Sam Schmidt, who died in 1923. In 1931 she married P. C. Wedel, who died in 1932. she was a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel, and had lived in Newton since 1966.
