JOHN C. WEDEL

John C. Wedel, son of Cornelius and Nettie Richert Wedel, was born near Galva, McPherson county, Kansas on April 8, 1879, and died on May 13, 1948, at the Bethel hospital, Newton, Kansas.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour by the Elder Balzer at the Alexanderwohl church in May of 1900.

On March 17, 1901, he entered into bonds of holy matrimony with Miss Nettie Jantz, daughter of Henry Jantz. To this union six children were born; Mabel, Mrs. John P. Suderman of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; Ida, Mrs. Lincoln H. Unruh of Galva, Kansas; Sadie, Mrs. Milton Schwartz of Pretty Prairie, Kansas; Walter, who died in infancy; Nathan and Waldo of Tampa, Kansas.

He leaves to mourn his departure the mother, Mrs. Nettie Wedel, three daughters, two sons, three sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, four brothers, three sisters, 17 grand-children, and many friends.

The deceased had very little education. He went to the public school near Moundridge, where he went as far as the fourth grade. He was always very active in life, for he had to solve many problems on which he faithfully worked, sometimes far into the night. This often brought him to his knees to pray and to pour out his heart to God.

He also received the assurance of salvation, knowing that all his sins were washed in the Blood of the Lamb. He rejoiced in the peace which he received and often mentioned that all was well with his soul.

In the year 1916 he was elected deacon of the Friedenstall church, which position he held approximately 30 years. Many times he prayed earnestly about the problems facing him. Again and again he saw the faithfulness of God in preparing the way for their solution. In the last years of his life, as his health began to fail, he realized that he might be called home suddenly, for which he was fully prepared. The Lord called him Thursday afternoon, May 13, a little before five o’clock. — The Family.
