KORNELIUS WARKENTIN

Kornelius Warkentin of Clearbrook, B. C. passed away on June 22, 1957. He was born on Jan. 15, 1875, in the village of Steinfeld, South Russia. There he spent the early years of his life and there he also was baptized and received into the membership of the First Mennonite Church.

On Nov. 22,1902, he entered into marriage with Katherina Wiebe. By God's grace, they have lived together for nearly 55 years.

In 1925 they came to Canada and for the first five years lived near Borden, Sask. Then they moved to Manitoba where they spent 11 years. Since 1941 they have lived in British Columbia.

He is survived by his wife; six daughters, Marie, Mrs. Julius Derksen of Clearbrook, B. C., Tina, Mrs. Pete Redekop of Mission, B. C., Helen, Mrs. Archie St. Louis of Haney, B. C., Anna, Mrs. Dietrich Friesen of Fresno, Calif., Susie, Mrs. John Derksen of Manitoba, Elsie, Mrs. John Siemens of Abbotsford, B. D.; three sons, Neil, Frank and Allen, all of Haney, B. C.; 29 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister in South America. Three children preceded him in death.

A week before he passed away he told his wife that he had the desire to die. Upon the question whether or not he was ready to die he answered clearly, "Yes, I am ready." We therefore believe assuredly that the Lord who will never cast out anyone that comes to Him repenting and broken-hearted has certainly accepted him, cleansed him with His precious blood and received him by grace.

We mourn, but not without hope for some day we shall meet him in glory.

Funeral services were held June 28 at 2 p.m. from Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren church. Rev. Abe Konrad officiated, assisted by Rev. H. P. Wiebe. interment followed in the Mennonite section of Hazelwood cemetery. Six sons-in-law acted as pallbearers.
