Lotus Troyer, 79, of rural Chenoa, Ill., former minister of Carlock, Flanagan and Meadows Mennonite churches, died Dec. 19, 1994, at Meadows Mennonite Home.
He was born July 17, 1915, at Fairview, Mich., a son of Ellsworth and Elva Dean Troyer. He married Hilda Kline on May 14, 1941, at Waterloo, Ind. She survives.
He was a graduate of Goshen (Ind.) College and did graduate work at Ohio State University. He was orained [sic] as a minister in 1947.
He served Mennonite churches in Summerfield, Carlock, Flanagan and Meadow, Ill., and Oak Grove Mennonite Church, Smithville, Ohio. He also was affiliated with Congo Inland Mission and was instrumental in the property exchange between the Mennonite church and the people of Zaire. He had been active in the Spare and Share progam [sic] in Gridley and served on the First Mennonite Relief Sale committee.
He was a member of the Gridley Senior Citizens and worked at Camp Friedenswald in Michigan. He also worked on the development of Meadows Mennonite Home and served on its board. He was chaplain at Meadows Mennonite Home and served on the Advocacy Board for East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging.
He also was a former correspondent for The Pantograph. In 1980 he was the subject of a Pantograph feature story when he lobbied in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the aging.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Lyle of Defiance, Ohio; two daughters, Lila Eschenfelder of Peoria and Marjorie Troyer of Irving, Texas; three brothers, Lowell of Elkhart, Ind., Kenneth of West St. Paul, Minn., and Herb of St. Paul; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.
Services were held at Meadows Mennonite Church, with Florence and Weldon Schloneger officiating. Burial was in Gridley Cemetery.
