Longtime GC India Missionary From Berne Dies

Berne, Ind. (GCMC) — Edward H. Burkhalter, a missionary to India for 42 years, died of a brain tumor July 25. He was 74.

Burkhalter and his wife, Ramoth, served with the Commission on Overseas mission. He was an evangelist, church planter, leadership trainer and manager of Jansen High School in Jagdeeshpur.

He also was a board member of Union Biblical Seminary, Pune. He received national recognition as a song leader and soloist for the Evangelical Fellowship of India.

For most of his years in India he provided leadership to the GC mission either as chairman or executive secretary. The Burkhalters retired in 1989 after turning over their responsibility to Indian leadership.

Burkhalter is survived by his wife, five daughters, a son, a brother, three sisters and eight grandchildren.
