DANIEL C. BUCHER

Daniel C. Bucher, son of John and Regina Steiner Bucher, was born on June 8, 1879, in Richland Township near Bluffton, Ohio.

On April 16, 1897, he was baptized upon confession of faith and received as a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful member until the time of his death.

He was married to Sarah Diller on Oct. 28, 1905. To this union were born five children, Jeannette, Barbara, Mabel, Clayton, and Milton Ray who died in infancy. In 1940 he was bereft of his wife who departed from this life and went to her Eternal Home.

On Feb. 28, 1943, he was married to Bertha Lugibuhl who shared with him in sickness and in health until the time of his death. Until a few years ago he had been active in the life of the church, having served 17 years as custodian, six years as trustee and for a time on the Sunday School Committee.

On Thursday noon, May 16, he mentioned to his wife that he didn’t feel very good but thought it would soon pass. However on Friday morning at 2:15 he suddenly turned for the worse and departed from this life to meet his Maker, having attained the age of 77 years, 11 months and nine days.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife; four children, Jeannette (Mrs. Myron Hilty) of Bellingham, Wash., Barbara of Chicago, Ill., Mabel (Mrs. Herbert Hilty) of Pandora, Ohio and Clayton of Lima, Ohio; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Eli and John of California, Mo. and Gideon of Bluffton; and one sister, Mrs. Leah Badertscher of Cincinnati, Ohio, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

At his last meal he quoted Titus 2:13, “Looking for that blessed and glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour, Jesus Christ.” Pastor Waldo Flickinger of the Ebenezer Mennonite Church used that portion for the sermon at funeral services held May 19, 1957. The other Scripture passage which Bro. Bucher referred to was II Tim. 4:7, 8. Rev. John P. Suderman, pastor of the St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora, assisted with the service. Burial was made in the Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery.
