Goshen Professor Dies Unexpectedly

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Marion M. Bontrager, 50, associate professor of mathematics at Goshen College, were held Friday afternoon, Feb. 8, at the College Mennonite Church. Rev. John Mosemann, the pastor, and Dr. Atlee Beechy officiated.

Dr. Bontrager died unexpectedly at his home on Feb. 4 from an apparent heart attack. He had taught in the math department of the college for the past six years.

A native of LaGrange County, he was a graduate of Shipshewana High school and of Goshen College. He received the master's degree from Indiana University in 1959 and the Ed.D. degree from Oklahoma State University in 1969. Earlier he taught in high schools, including Goshen High, and served among the Navajo Indians for three years under the MCC.

Surviving are his widow, the former Lola Miller; two daughters, Sharon Kaye and Pamela Elaine, both at home; his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Early Bontrager of Middlebury; a brother, Mark, of Shipshewana; and two sisters, Mrs. Sylvester Haarer of Shipshewana and Mrs. Glenola Leinbach of Goshen.
