text of obituary:
BROTHER RUDOLPH PENNER was born Sept. 7, 1857, at Wickerau, West Prussia. His parents were Henry Penner and Marie Penner, nee Suckau. He attended school in the city of Elbing. In 1872, in April, he was baptized there, on the confession of his faith, by Elder Carl Harder, and became a member of the Mennonite church. In the year 1900 he was married to Anna Sommer, and three years later they came to America, arriving here at Beatrice in October. They became members of our church in 1906. They lived on a farm until his health failed several years ago. During the last months he was steadily losing strength, but was really sick only a few days. He passed away Friday night, October 22, trusting in Christ Jesus, our Redeemer.
His age was 80 years, 1 month, 15 days. The family, his wife, four sons, four daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, and one brother are grieved over their loss of a dear husband, father, grandfather, and brother. But they say, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth.
He leadeth me, O blessed thought,
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate’r I do, where’r I be,
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me.
— W. R. Penner.
