KATIE ZERGER GOERING

Katie Zerger Goering, daughter of Joshua and Freni Stucky Zerger, was born on Dec. 12, 1894, on a farm near Moundridge, Kan. She attended Peaceful Elementary School. Her education was interrupted in the seventh grade by the death of her father, after which she voluntarily stayed at home to help her mother.

She was baptized June 20, 1909 in the Hopefield-Eden Mennonite Church of Moundridge and remained a faithful member of that congregation until her death.

She was married to Jonathan J. Goering on Nov. 26, 1914. They made their home on a farm northwest of Moundridge where they lived for 41 years until his death on June 3, 1958. Twelve children, four daughters and eight sons, were born to this union. She was a proud and devoted mother, cheerfully giving all of her time and energy to the needs and concerns of her family.

After the death of her husband she moved to North Newton where she lived for eight years. In 1968 she moved to the Memorial Home for the Aged in Moundridge. Here she enjoyed the companionship of her brother and four sisters. She died on April 16, 1977, having attained the age of 82.

Four brothers, four sisters and one grandchild preceded her in death.

She is survived by eight sons, Harvey of Gainesville, Fla., Philip of Anaheim, Calif., Reuben of Phoenix, Ariz., Emil of Topeka, Kan., Donald of Salina, Kan., Marlo of Wichita, Kan. and Elmer F. and Clyde of Moundridge; four daughters, Mary Ann (Mrs. Delbert) Preheim of Newton, Kan., Meta (Mrs. William) Juhnke, Laura (Mrs. Reuben Krehbiel and Marjorie (Mrs. Marvin) Stucky, all of McPherson, Kan.; two sisters, Adina (Mrs. Val) Krehbiel and Lydia (Mrs. Jacob) Goering, and one brother Daniel Zerger, all of Moundridge; 49 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
