KATHERINE (KAY) BRAUN

Katherine Braun died July 5. She was born Dec. 24, 1912 to Jakob Heinrik and Mary Rempel in Eichenfeld, Ukraine. The family immigrated to Canada in 1923, settling in Herbert, Sask. At age 18 she moved to Vancouver to work as a cook for wealthy families so she could send money home. Weekends were spent at the Maedchenheim and church. She married Nick Braun in Penticton in 1938. They farmed on Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. She was spirited, outgoing and had strong opinions. She loved guests and enjoyed cooking, and sharing her garden produce. She knit for her children and for the Red Cross and MCC. She shared her faith and volunteered in church. They travelled to many countries. She cared for Nick after he developed Parkinson's disease. Predeceased by Nick in 1992, she is mourned by sons Peter and Nick; 4 grandchildren.
