LUISE MARTENS

Luise Martens died Nov. 5. She was born Dec. 11, 1918 near Omsk, Russia to Peter and Susanna Rahn. In 1929 she fled with her parents to Germany to escape Soviet oppression and then emigrated to Paraguay. She accepted Christ as Saviour at 14 and was baptized. She married Wilhelm Martens Jan. 7, 1939. In 1954 they moved to Winnipeg, where the North Kildonan MB Church became their spiritual home. She passed many spiritual and life values on to her children and grandchildren. Her life was orderly and prayerful, and she organized wonderful family gatherings, often reciting a psalm she had recently memorized. Predeceased by Wilhelm and a great-granddaughter, she is mourned by sons Cornelius, Peter, William and Armin; daughters Adelheid Fast, Toni Dueck, Gerlinde Enns, Blondina Falk, Luise Sawatzky; 34 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Nov. 10 at North Kildonan MB Church with George Klassen, Roland Marsch and William Martens ministering.
