CORNELIUS PENNER

Cornelius Penner died Feb. 11. He was born July 9, 1921 to Peter and Katherine Penner in Friedensruh, Russia. The family immigrated to Namaka, Alta. in 1926, moved to Glenside and Bournmouth, Sask., then to Ontario. He accepted Jesus Christ at age 10, was baptized and joined Glenbush (Sask.) MB Church. He married Mary Kliewer from Virgil, Ont. in 1943. He was instrumental in starting Niagara Christian Fellowship Chapel, where he served for 11 years. They moved to St. Catharines, joining Scott St. MB Church, then Grantham MB Church. He taught Sunday school and was custodian. He carved wood as a hobby. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in mid-1990s. Even when fearful he was certain of his faith and longed to see Jesus. Predeceased by 2 sisters; 1 brother; he is mourned by Mary; daughters Dorothy Schritt and Marilyn Bender; sons John and Bert; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother; 2 sisters. The funeral was Feb. 14 in Grantham MB Church.
