text of obituary:
BERNHARD W. ENTZ
Bernhard W. Entz, son of Abraham and Marie Busenitz Entz, was born Jan. 6, 1877 in Marienburg, West Prussia, Germany. He died at Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton, Kan., on Jan. 22, 1968 at the age of 91.
He came to America with his parents at the age of five. He attended elementary school at the Stone School, a rural school near their home. His schooling was continued at Halstead Academy. Later he also attended Bethel College Academy, riding horseback to and from school.
He was baptized by Elder Jacob Toews on May 13, 1894 and received as a member of First Mennonite Church, Newton, where he remained a faithful member until his death. He was faithful in church attendance until ill health made it impossible for him to attend regularly.
On Sept. 21, 1904 he was untied in marriage to Anna L Claassen, who preceded him in death on June 23, 1929. To this union were born five sons and three daughters.
He was a good provider, being concerned for the material and spiritual welfare of his children. He had a deep concern for the personal salvation of his children and grandchildren and prayed much for each one. He continued to live alone in the large farmhouse and greatly enjoyed watching the grandchildren at play out-of-doors and observing the changes in weather, because he was a great lover of nature.
He had a sincere interest in missions. This interest was enriched in 1949 when his son Samuel and wife Leona dedicated their lives for mission service in the Congo. They are at present serving in their fourth term.
Preceding him in death, besides his wife, was an infant son William who passed away in January 1924, three brothers and two sisters. Father is survived by the following children: Hilda and husband Edward Busenitz, Walter B. and wife Anna, Martha and husband Harry Klaassen, Edith and husband Jacob Harms, a daughter-in-law Marie Entz, and Willard C. and wife Edna, all of Newton; Samuel E. and wife Leona of Nyanga, Republic of congo, Africa, and Daniel E. of Lees Summit, Mo. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. J. E. Entz, and a sister, Mrs. E. M. Harder.
