KATIE WIENS

Katie Wiens of Saskatoon passed away Apr. 26. She was born in 1908 to Abram F. and Anna Martens in Kleefeld, Molotschna, Russia. During the Russian Revolution she learned the value of sharing. In 1926 the family immigrated to Canada, settling on a farm at Hepburn, Sask. She was baptized and joined the MB church. She worked as a maid in Saskatoon, her earnings enabling her parents to buy livestock and to buy a new home when the first one burned down. In 1936 she married Jacob Wiens. They farmed near Watrous, Sask. until retiring to Saskatoon in 1986. Throughout this time they were active members of Philadelphia MB Church. She is remembered for her generosity, hospitality and willing hands. She loved entertaining and giving generously to her children and others. She made many blankets and tons of lye soap for MCC. She had a special concern for the spiritual well-being of each of her family. Predeceased by 4 sisters and 1 brother, she is mourned by her husband; daughters Helen Redekop and Margaret Lepp; sons Alfred, Edward and David; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 1 sister. The funeral was Apr. 30 in Forest Grove Community Church, Saskatoon, with Robert Radtke and Rueben Baerg ministering.
