JACOB R. SPEISER

Jacob R. Speiser of Laird, Sask., passed away on June 25. He was born to Rudolph and Anna Speiser on May 24,1910, and grew up on the family farm near Laird. He attend ed the Ebenfeld public school in his early years and later graduated from the Waldheim high school. It was while studying at Bethany Bible Institute in Hepburn, Sask., that he accepted Christ as his Saviour. Upon graduation, Jake bought a farm near Ebenfeld. On Sept. 28, 1947 he was married to Katie Klassen, and their union was blessed with one daughter, Louella. From his youth, Jake was an active member of the Laird (and later the Waldheim) Mennonite Brethren Church. His special love was teaching a Sunday school class of intermediate boys with whom he enjoyed special trips and activities.

His family remembers him for his loving devotion to his friends and relatives. He is survived by his wife Katie and daughter Louella; one brother Henry and wife Eliza; three sisters, Anna, Bertha and Lisetta, all of EI Monte, CA; one sister-in-law, Albertine Speiser; and many relatives and friends. The funeral took place at the Waldheim Mennonite Brethren Church, with Otto Derksen and John Goertzen officiating.
