ABRAM J. BRAUN

Abram J. Braun was born on July 3, 1897, in Neu-Chortitza, southern Russia, the sixth child of John and Maria (nee Enns) Braun. After the early death of his father in 1902 the family moved to Schoeneberg where his mother married Franz Isaak. Here Abram was baptized and received into the Mennonite church. Helena Klassen became his bride in 1922, and the Brauns emigrated to Canada in 1923.

They settled first on a farm near Morse, Sask., followed by several moves: to Gnadental, Man., in 1925, to St. Anne, Man., in 1939, and finally to Greendale, B.C., where he resided until his passing. The Brauns joined the Greendale Mennonite Brethren Church through baptism in 1956. In 1972 they were able to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with great thankful· ness.

After an operation last June, cancer was discovered. Mr. Braun suffered with patience and longed for the end, to be taken home to be with the Lord. This was granted on November 1. Harry Heidebrecht and Dave Froese officiated at a memorial service on November 4 at the Greendale Church.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Helena; two daughters, Mary (Mrs . Jake) Duerksen of Chilliwack and Helen of Sardis; one son, Theodore, of Chino, Calif.; six grandchildren; five great·grandchildren; a brother, John; three sisters, (Mrs.) Elizabeth Klippenstein of Herbert, Sask., (Mrs.) Anna Rempel of Chilliwack and (Mrs.) Tina Ewert of Sardis; and many relatives and friends.
