PETER J. SCHELLENBERG

Peter J. Schellenberg of Clearbrook, B.C., long a resident of the Tabor Home, went to be with the Lord on October 4. He was born on February 10, 1887 in southern Russia. He came to Canada in 1903 with his parents. They settled first in Manitoba and then after a short stay moved to Herbert, Sask., where he farmed until 1944. He accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour in 1908 and on October 4 of that same year, he was baptized and received into the Mennonite Brethren church. He was married to Maria Thiessen in 1915, with whom he shared joys and sorrows for 41 years. The Lord blessed their union with three sons and six daughters.

He retired from farming in 1944 and moved to Yarrow and shortly thereafter to Clearbrook. In 1956 the Lord chose to take his wife from his side after a serious illness. He later found a partner in (Mrs.) Katharina Funk, who shared her life with him for eight years. He lived ten of his last years in the Tabor Rest Home. He had lost all interest in material values, but kept his faith in his Saviour to the end.

He leaves to mourn two sons, John and his wife Kay, Eldo and his wife Joan; and five daughters, Anne (Mrs. Herman) Neufeld, Tina (Mrs. Jacob) Dyck, Mary (Mrs. Peter) Friesen, Agnes (Mrs. Lionel) Guy, and Helen (Mrs. Robert) Mynott; 20 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
