MRS. SARA PENNER
(Mrs.) Sara Penner was born on January 30, 1892 in southern Russia. She passed away on May 8 while a resident of Tabor Manor in St. Catharines, Ont. In her youth she accepted Christ as her Saviour and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church.
In 1918 she married Jacob Penner. The Penners were blessed with four sons and four daughters. They moved to Canada in 1924, farming for several years in Manitoba and from 1933 until retirement in 1962 in Ontario. In 1970 they moved to Tabor Manor. Mrs. Penner's husband predeceased her in that year; a daughter predeceased her in 1962, and a son in childhood.
She suffered quietly over the years from cancer, heart ailments, and diabetes. The loss of her sight in the mid 1960's was difficult to accept, but with the help of the Lord she was able to cope with 'that as well. Throughout her life her faith was evident in the many hymns she sang as she worked in the kitchen or garden. Her faith never wavered. After her passing a funeral service was held in the Port Rowan (Ont.) Mennonite Brethren Church.
She leaves to mourn three sons, Peter, John and Jacob; three daughters, Mary (Mrs. Peter) Baese, Anne (Mrs. Peter) Krahn, and Mrs. Peter Thiessen, all of Ontario; two brothers, Henry and Nick Enns of Winnipeg; one sister, Tina (Mrs. Nika) Saloff-Astokhoff of Florida; 29 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
