Farmer Trapped Under Silage, Suffocates
IRA M. WHITE, JR. DIES IN UNUSUAL ACCIDENT NEAR LANCASTER, PA.
Lancaster, Pa. — A 33-year-old farmer of Route 7, Lancaster, suffocated under several tons of silage recently at his farm.
Ira M. White, Jr. was apparently standing in his silo throwing down silage for his cows when frozen silage which had been clinging to the walls came loose and fell on him. He was discovered missing about 8 p.m. by his wife and a search begun by his father, brothers and neighbors, who found his body.
Funeral services were conducted at the Millersville Mennonite Church, of which he was a member. Surviving are his wife, the former Arlene Schertzer, three children and his father.
