Edmonton, Alberta. &#8212; A brain hemorrhage suffered after addressing a seed growers' meeting in Calgary proved fatal March 2 to Dr. John M. Unrau, 45, well-known agricultural scientist at the University of Alberta. He was stricken while returning here by car and died a few hours later at the Red Deer, Alta. hospital.

Dr. Unrau was head of the plant science department at the university where he had served on the faculty since 1949. He had resigned from his present position and planned to join the staff of McMaster University in Hamilton.

Dr. Walter Johns, president of the University of Alberta, said Dr. Unrau was ”one of the world's distinguished scientists in the field of plant genetics and plant breeding.” He was a member of the Mennonite church and served on the board of Canadian Mennonite Bible College Winnipeg.

Alberta Scientist Dies After Meeting

DR. JOHN M. UNRAU WAS SPECIALIST IN PLANT GENETICS AND BREEDING

Edmonton, Alberta. — A brain hemorrhage suffered after addressing a seed growers' meeting in Calgary proved fatal March 2 to Dr. John M. Unrau, 45, well-known agricultural scientist at the University of Alberta. He was stricken while returning here by car and died a few hours later at the Red Deer, Alta. hospital.

Dr. Unrau was head of the plant science department at the university where he had served on the faculty since 1949. He had resigned from his present position and planned to join the staff of McMaster University in Hamilton.

Dr. Walter Johns, president of the University of Alberta, said Dr. Unrau was ”one of the world's distinguished scientists in the field of plant genetics and plant breeding.” He was a member of the Mennonite church and served on the board of Canadian Mennonite Bible College Winnipeg.
