ESTHER ALMA WEDEL
Esther Alma Wedel, daughter of Peter J. and Lena (Krehbiel) Wedel, was born on Jan. 24, 1901, at Lindsborg, Kan. In the following year the family moved to North Newton where Dr. Wedel served on the Bethel College faculty. Esther spent nearly her entire life on the college campus. She was a member of the Bethel College Mennonite church and received her education in the Newton grade schools and Bethel Academy.
Though limited through a serious illness in early childhood, Esther was encouraged to take part in the activities of the college and the church. Her interest in school and church continued through the years and the joys of her childhood were reflected in a gentle and outgoing kindliness throughout her life.
She gave a good Christian witness through faithful attendance at church services as her health permitted. She participated in the Women's Bible Study class and is remembered with appreciation by its members.
After the death of her parents, Esther made her home with her sister, Margaret, until about a year ago when she entered the C. S. Smith home where she received loving care and endeared herself to the other residents. A heart ailment caused her death on Nov. 10, 1960, after two days in the Bethel Deaconess Hospital. She reached the age of 59 years, nine months, and 16 days.
Surviving are a sister, Margaret and her husband John F. Goertz of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Waldo R. Wedel and his wife Mildred of Washington, D. C.; a niece and two nephews.
