Youth Stabbed By Mental Patient

San Jose, Calif. — Funeral services were conducted at the Willow Creek Mennonite church near Paso Robles for Hans C. Thiessen, 22, who was fatally stabbed by a mental patient at the Atascadero mental hospital.

The young man, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nikolai Thiessen of San Luis Obispo, was attending college and working at the mental hospital in the evenings. He and four staff members were transferring a criminal patient to another ward when the patient grabbed a sharp table knife and attacked the group.

Surviving in addition to the parents are three sisters and two brothers.
