Youth Fatally Hurt In Car-Buggy Crash
DAVID HOSTETLER 7TH TRAFFIC VICTIM OF 1900 IN ELKHART COUNTY, IND.
Goshen, Ind. — Injuries suffered early Sunday morning, March 20, when his horse-drawn buggy was struck by an auto near Nappanee proved fatal the following afternoon to 18-year-old David Hostetler, jr. of Route 1, Nappanee.
His death marked the seventh traffic fatality for Elkhart county in 1960. Funeral services for the Amish youth were held at the Willis I. Yoder home Friday forenoon, and that afternoon a two-car crash near New Paris claimed the life of Ora Maurer, 64, raising the county traffic toll to eight. His two daughters were seriously injured.
Coming from a side road at 12:45 a.m., the Hostetler youth drove his buggy into the path of a car on State Road 19. He died at Elkhart General hospital of multiple fractures and internal injuries.
Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers, five sisters and the grandparents, Amos Hostetlers of Route 1, Nappanee, and D. K. Bontragers of Haven, Kan.
