Burns Prove Fatal To Ontario Girl

ACCIDENT IN KITCHEN RESULTS IN DEATH OF CAROLYN BOWMAN, 6

Kitchener, Ont. — Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church of Kitchener on Wednesday, June 10, for Carolyn Bowman, age 6, who passed away three weeks after an accident at her residence.

The girl apparently had crawled on top of a kitchen cupboard to get some dishes when the burner of an electric stove ignited her housecoat. She received burns to her face, chin, chest, abdomen and thighs and it is estimated that 40 per cent of her body was burned.

The accident occurred on May 17 and she was rushed to the Kitchener-Waterloo hospital and shortly thereafter transferred to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, where she died three weeks later. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Bowman of Kitchener.
