ELISABETH UNRUH
Elisabeth Unruh, daughter of Peter P. and Elisbeth [sic Elisabeth] Wedel Unruh, was born on March 21, 1887 at Lehigh, Marion County, Kan.
She received her elementary education at the Hochfeld school. She also planned to enter the Penner preparatory school, but due to her mother's illness was not able to attend.
Upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ her Redeemer, she was baptized on June 11, 1905 by Rev. Peter Balzer and accepted as a member into the Alexanderwohl Church, whose faithful member she remained until her death.
The departed was always a willing and hard worker, helping in her parental home in various tasks. She worked in different family homes and in some for extended periods of time. Later she started to work in institutions where she labored until her retirment [sic] a few years ago. The greater number of these years she spent in preparing food for the physical body.
In 1925 she stared [sic] to work in the Salem, Ore. Deaconess hospital, where she labored a number of years. She treasured highly the experiences of these years. However, the greater part of her work in institutions was spent in Bethesda Hospital — first in what is now the Home for the Aged and then in the present hospital for about twenty years.
She spent much time reading her Bible, especially during this last year. Due to her physical impairment she could not attend church services often, but attended the services conducted at the Home for the Aged, for which she was thankful.
For the last several months she was ailing and felt that her stay here would not be for long. Although we keenly feel the separation from our loved one, we are thankful for the assurance that she is a home with the Lord.
On July 9 she entered the Bethesda Hospital and early Saturday morning she suffered a stroke, remaining unconscious to the end. She passed away shortly before four o'clock in the afternoon of July 13, 1959, reaching the age of 72 years, three months and four days.
She leaves to mourn her passing, one brother, W. W. Unruh and Martha his wife; two sisters, Maria E. Buller and Agnes and her husband Arthur Bartel; one niece, Lucilla Funk and husband Elmer and family; Three nephews, Olin Unruh and his wife Hilda and family, Gailen Keith and Lyle Wayne Bartel.
Preceding her in death were her father and mother, one brother and two sisters, who passed away in early infancy.
Funeral services were conducted in the Bethesda Home for the Aged, in charge of Rev. H. B. Schmidt, and in the Alexanderwohl Church in charge of Rev. P. A. Wedel.
