— Richard L. Schmidt, young farmer of Route 2, Newton, died Saturday morning at the Bethel Deaconess hospital where he had been a patient for five weeks. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday forenoon at the Tabor Mennonite church, Rev. James Waltner in charge. Mr. Schmidt was born Aug 31, 1925 in Marion County and in 1949 was married to Earla Jean Frey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Frey. In addition to farming he had engaged in custom butchering. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Robert James and Darrell Lee; his mother, Mrs. Frieda Schmidt, one brother, Raymond Schmidt, and one sister, Mrs. Dan Guhr, all of Route 2, Newton.
