James R. Bridge, son of Jessie R. and Betty Treavey Bridge, was born March 1, 1868, near Sherando, Va., and passed away at the home of his son, Caskie Bridge at Waynesboro, Va. on Oct. 15, 1952, aged 84 years, seven months and 14 days.
In 1900 he united with the Mennonite church. There was no Mennonite church in the community, so in the same year he helped to build the Mt. View Mennonite church, Lyndhurst, Va. and had his membership placed there. He remained a faithful member of this church until his death. He and his wife were among the first members of this congregation, and he was the oldest member.

On May 20, 1900, he was united in marriage to Ida Bell Bridge of Sherando, Va., who preceded him in death Feb. 26, 1952. They lived near the Mt. View church until March 1927, at which time they moved to 425 Arch Ave., Waynesboro, living there until their death.
Surviving are two sons, Caskie B. Bridge and Howard A. Bridge, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, both of Lyndhurst; two sisters, Mrs. Osie Henderson of Lyndhurst and Mrs. Elizabeth Broughman of Roanoke, Va.; eight grandchildren and large number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at the Mt. View Mennonite church in charge of Joseph Driver, John Hendricks and Silas W. Brydge. The body was laid to rest in the Springdale Mennonite church cemetery. It was a beautiful day and a large crowd attended the services.
