— Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church for Mrs. Henry A. Ewert, 73, who died Wednesday evening, Dec. 26, at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital. Rev. Arnold Epp officiated and the graveside service was in charge of Rev. P. W. Goering of Lehigh. Mrs. Ewert, the former Susie Krause, is survived by her husband of the home in Newton, two daughters and two sons, 13 grandchildren, and three sisters.

Susie Krause Ewert, daughter of Rev. P. J. and Susanna (Reimer) Krause, was born in Marion County, near Lehigh, Kansas on Jan. 2, 1883. She departed this life at the Bethel Deaconess hospital on Dec. 26, 1956, reaching the age of 73 years, 11 months and 24 days. Hers was a godly heritage which she greatly appreciated. She received her education in the Hochfeld and Lehigh schools, with her father as her instructor.

At the age of 17, upon the confession of her faith in Christ as her Saviour, she was baptized by Rev. Peter Balzer, and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Church. In 1900 when the Mennonite Church in Lehigh was organized, she transferred her membership there.

On Jan. 12, 1908, she was joined in holy matrimony to Henry A. Ewert, by her father, Rev. P. J. Krause. This union was blessed with six children of whom two preceded her in death. She contributed much towards the spiritual welfare of her family, and had the joy of seeing all her children within the Fold. She loved to sing, and a family gathering was hardly complete without her leading the family in singing hymns of praise to the Lord. She was much interested in all phases of church work, and taught Sunday school classes in various churches which they attended through the years.

Retiring from the farm in 1945, they made their home in Newton, where she united with the First Mennonite Church.

In 1953 her health began to fail and in 1955 she submitted to a major operation which seemed quite successful. After several months, however, further complications developed, causing her to grow gradually weaker. During her lingering illness, her husband faithfully cared for her. She also appreciated the kind and loving special attention and care which was give her by a neighbor who is an efficient nurse. She enjoyed her home until the afternoon of Dec. 20, when she again entered the Bethel Deaconess Hospital.

During her times of testing and trials she maintained a spirit of submission, linked with a firm faith in her God. Her Bible was a constant source of comfort and encouragement. Favorite verses which she quoted during her illness were Isaiah 26:3, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee; because he trusteth in thee," and, "Isaiah 41:13, "for I the Lord they god will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not, I will help thee."

On Christmas Day the Lord gave her sufficient strength to bid her loved ones good-bye. The desire of her heart was granted her on the evening of Dec.26, when she entered into the presence of her Lord.

She is survived by her hus band and the following children: Elda (Mrs. Rudy Lichti)of Dinuba, Calif.; Walter of Route 3, Newton; Irvin of Dinuba, Calif.; and Linda (Mrs. George Klassen) of Buhler. She leaves 13 grandchildren; one preceded her in death. She is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. P.H. Klassen, Mrs. C. C. Friesen, and Mrs. L. R. McComb.

Although our loss will be keenly felt, we sorrow not as those who have no hope, for we shall meet again where there will be no parting. — The Family.
