AGANETHA TOEWS

Mrs. Aganetha Toews was born in 1893 in Nikolaiewka, S. Russia. In 1911 she was baptized upon her confession of faith and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. She was married to Julius Toews in 1913. Of the eight children given them, three died in infancy.

In 1929 they travelled to Paraguay via Germany, where a son died so they came to Paraguay in 1930 with four children. In those difficult years another daughter was born to them. For 27 years they experienced hardships but also blessed fellowship in Paraguay.

In 1957 they came to Canada with a son and a daughter to make a new beginning. They settled in Virgil, where, thanks to God's help and good health, they were soon able to purchase a home. Sister Toews became ill in 1966. Three years ago cancer also set in so that she often had to be hospitalized. Just prior to her death she contracted pneumonia. She went to be with the Lord on Oct. 22 at the age of 79 years.

She leaves to mourn her husband; two sons, three daughters, 27 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Virgil MB Church with Rev. John G. Baerg officiating.
