CATHERINE FRIESEN
Mrs. Cath erine Friesen (nee Klassen) w as born in 1895 in Southern Russia. She was orphaned at an early age and consequently spent her youth with her guardian uncle. In 1918 s'he was marrie,d to Aron A. Friesen. During the revolution th ey moved to Riche'llau ,and were baptized on their faith and jO'ined thM .B. church there in 1923. In 1924 they emigrated to Canada, establishing a homestead in Elie, Manitoba, in 1926. They fel,lowshippe'd with Christian families there and later joined the M.B. Church at Newton . Th ei r marriage was b'lessed with four ch ildren , a daughter a'nd three sons. Mr. Friese'n died in 1946 andlef,t his wife with the responsibility of raising the family. In 1952 she moved to OakviH,e, where she lived till 1970, when her ne'ed for medical an-ention made it necessary to move to Donwood Manor, W'innipeg, where she remained until her death. Sh'e suffered a stroke in 1924 wh'ich affected her eyesight, and the condition gradually worsened in ensuing years and curta,iled her a'ctivities in the home as w ell as in the church . The fami'ly members rejOice now to know that her Heavenly Father has restored her with everlasting sight! She pass ed away on September 3. A few minutes before she died she was still able to thank God for His goodness and grace. She leaves to mourn her daught'er Catherine, of Winnipeg; Arthur of Oakville; Ed and Helen of Abbotsford; Alfre,d and Anne of Oakville; ,eight grandchildren, a brother in Chilliwack, and man y friends ,and relatives. Funeral services were he,ld in Newton Siding with Rev. David Dyck and Rev. Martin Durksen ministering. Interment was at Oakville Ceme'tary.
