MRS. PETER BARTEL

Helena Bartel was born October 24, 1892 at Steinfeld, in the Ukraiine. On November 3, 1923 she married the late Peter Bartel of Rudnerweid, also of southern Russia. They left Russia for Canada in 1925 and settled first in the Dalmeny-Langham area and a few years later, in 1928, at Glenbush, Sask. They farmed at Glenbush for 31 years and joined the Glenbush Mennonite Brethren Church in September of their first year there. In 1958 they retired to Saskatoon. Their declining years included much illness, yet she enjoyed the visits by the family and friends. They were able to intimately visit with her, read the Bible and sing, and pray with her. Her husband passed away on June 2, 1967. Earlier a daughter, and three sons and a granddaughter had predeceased her. On December 19, 1971 she passed peacefully on to be with Jesus. Her last five years were spent in the Mennonite Nursing Home at Rosthern.
