ACCIDENTS WITH HORSES TAKE TWO LIVES IN PENNSYLVANIA

Smoketown, Pa. — Harlan Brubaker, four-year-old son of John D. Brubaker, Terre Hill, died less than two hours after he was kicked by a horse in the barn at his home.

The father and an uncle stood in the barn talking and Harlan evidently ran into the stable to hide from a six-year-old brother. The boy was kicked by the horse, thrown against a stone wall and was unconscious by the time the father reached him. In the hospital he was conscious only about 10 minutes. He is survived by his father, step-mother and two brothers. Funeral services were held at Weaverland Mennonite church.

Louis Martin, route 2, New Holland met death when a frightened horse bolted into the motorcycle he was riding, upsetting it and throwing him into a ditch.

Martin, 20, had just passed the crest of a hill on his cycle when a horse and buggy driven by Melvin Stoltzfus, 17, of Bareville, traveling the opposite direction, swerved to the left and the horse ran into the cycle. Louis was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident as a result of a fractured skull. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Martin of New Holland, who were on a trip in Canada, visiting friends. They were notified of the tragedy and arrived at home the next day. Survivors include his parents, eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held at the Pequea Mennonite church.
