Mr. Isaac David Toews was born on October 24, 1890, in Southern Russia. At the age of 18 he was converted at a reviV'al meeting, and was baptised into the MB Church.

In 1910 he married Louise Derksen, and had four sons and a daughter. After 13 years of married life, she and their daughter passed away. He later. married Katharine Enns, and this union was blessed with eleven children')' two of whom predeceased him.
