Kansas Couple Killed in Auto Crash

HENRY ENGBRECHTS OF STERLING, KANSAS, MEET DEATH IN INDIANA

Waterloo, Ind. — Brief memorial services were conducted at a Waterloo funeral home on Oct. 17 for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Engbrecht of Sterling, Kansas, who lost their lives at a highway intersection here on Wednesday, Oct. 16, when their car was struck by a truck. The services were conducted by Rev. Clinton Moser, Woodburn, Ind., pastor of the Missionary church, and Rev. Noah Schmucker, pastor of the Defenseless Mennonite church at Berne, Ind.

Mr. and Mrs. Engbrecht, aged 69 and 67 respectively, had been visiting their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Yerkes at New Haven, Ind., and were on their way to the home of another daughter, Mrs. Edna Henderson, at Crystal, Mich., when the accident occurred. Witnesses stated that Mr. Engbrecht started to cross the busy intersection on the yellow light when his car was struck broadside by a large tractor-trailer loaded with paper. Mrs. Engbrecht was killed instantly and her husband died a few minutes after a physician arrived.

Burial At Sterling

Following the service here, the bodies were sent to Sterling for the final services and burial. In addition to the two daughters mentioned above, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Paul Farney and Mrs. Kenneth Caywood, and one son Harlan Engbrecht, all of Sterling; a brother, Noah Rupp, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Engbrecht, both of Sterling, and several grandchildren. The Engbrechts also had many relatives at Ft. Wayne, Woodburn, Grabill and Berne, Ind., and at Archbold, Ohio.
