Joseph E. Mast, son of Steven K. and Catherine (Esch) Mast was born at Lancaster, Pa. on May 22, 1875, passed away July 11, 1950, age 75 years, one month, 19 days, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Buller (his granddaughter) near Creston, Montana, with whom he had made his home since the death of his wife 14 months ago. | |||
On Dec. 22, 1903, he united in marriage to Katherine Birky. To this union was born six sons, Silas B. of Creston, Montana, Jacob B. of Bozeman, Montana, Johnie B. (deceased), Melvin B. (deceased), Paul B. of Fort Hall, Idaho, Joseph B. of Lame Deer, Montana. Surviving are four sons, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild; two brothers, Aaron B. Mast of Morgantown, Pa. and Elam E. Mast of Elverson, Pa.; three sisters, Priscilla, Mrs. John Stolzfus of Joanna, Pa., Catherine, Mrs. Henry Stolzfus of Elverson, Pa., and Lydia, Mrs. Oscar Grubb of Elverson, Pa.; also a large number of other relatives and friends. | |||
He united with the Mennonite church in his youth and remained a faithful member till death. He grew to manhood in Lancaster, Pa. As a young man he went to Kansas where he was married, and in 1901 started farming near Shickley, Nebr. In 1910 he moved to Beemer, Nebr. and in the spring of 1916 he with his family moved to Calkins, Montana. There he farmed until three years ago, when he moved to Creston, at which place his wife preceded him on May 4, 1949. | |||
He was active in church and Sunday school work and loved singing, and was concerned about the spiritual welfare of his children. He was looking forward to the time of his going home for quite some time before his death. He chose the text for his funeral Amos 4:12. “prepare to meet thy God." | |||
Funeral services were held at Wagner Campell funeral home at Kalispell, Montana, in charge of D. D. Brenneman. | |||
