Death Claims Retired Physician At Bally, Pa.

DR. O. W. BERKY SERVED COMMUNITY FOR ABOUT 40 YEARS

Bally, Pa. — Death removed one of this community’s most respected citizens with the passing of Dr. Oswin W. Berky, 73, practicing physician here for nearly 40 years who also held many other responsible positions in the community.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon, Jan. 20, at the Hereford Mennonite church by the pastor, Rev. Wilmer S. Shelly. Dr. Berky was a long-time member of the church and had served as a trustee and Sunday school superintendent.

For many years Dr. Berky was the only general practitioner serving the Bally community. In addition, he found time to serve for several terms as burgess of Bally, school director, postmaster, and director of a local bank.

Surviving him are a nephew, Stanley Bechtel, and wife, with whom he had made his home in recent years; two brothers, Herbert, professor of chemistry at Bluffton college, and Ralph of Bally. His wife, the former Amy H. Latshaw, died Jan. 9, 1938.
