DAVID KAHN
David Kahn was born in McPherson County, Kans. May 24, 1883, and passed away at his home in Halstead March 3, 1953, reaching the age of 69 years, nine months and 17 days.
He was married October 10, 1914, at Cimarron, Kansas, to Sarah Unruh, with whom he shared joys and sorrows for over 38 years. With the exception of a few years at Montezuma, they have lived at Halstead. In 1922 they built a new home in Halstead, where he lived at the time of his death.
At the age of 33 he accepted Christ as his Saviour and upon remission of sins and confession of faith, he was baptized by elder T. A. Unruh and added to the Church of God in Christ, on May 8, 1916, of which he remained a faithful member.
Dave’s health had been failing for about three years. A year ago he was in the hospital for three months, regained his health so that he could do most of his farming again.
Tuesday, March 3, at 5:45 p.m. he had a heart attack and quietly and peacefully passed away to meet the One he loved and served.
His passing away has taken from us a kind and loving husband, a faithful brother and a good neighbor.
He leaves to mourn his passing his widow Mrs. Sarah Kahn; five sisters, Mrs. Cornelius Koehn of Mexico, Mrs. Andrew Koehn of Montezuma, Mrs. John Koehn of Livingston, Calif., Mrs. Jake Koehn of Winton, Calif. and Mrs. Ed Koehn of Hesston; three brothers, Cornelius Kahn of Montezuma, and Isaac and Sam Kahn, both of Livingston, Calif., and a host of relatives and friends. His parents, Henry and Lizzie Kahn, three brothers and two sisters, Lydia, Jake, Fred, Katie and Joe, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, March 8, at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Mennonite church. Rev. Carl Dirks, Rev. Paul Becker, and Rev. Nightingale of Copeland, Kansas, were the officiating ministers.
Casket bearers were Eli Koehn, John Koehn, Paul Koehn, Pete Koehn, Menno Koehn and Elmer Unruh.
The Grace Mennonite church choir provided music selections at the home, the church and at the cemetery. Burial took place at the Halstead cemetery. Directors of the Kaufman funeral home were in charge of arrangements.
