Prediger Johann B. Baer wurde den 19. Mai, 1854, in Illinois geboren. A. B. Shelly.

Rev. John B. Baer was born May 19, 1854, near O'Fallen, Illinois. He departed this earthly life and passed on to his home beyond August 23, 1939, at the age of 85 years and 3 months. Besides receiving a common school education, he studied one year in the Mennonite school at Wadsworth, Ohio; one year each at a Methodist, Baptist, and three at a Presb. institution, and three years worked his way through Union Theological seminary, N. Y., from which he graduate in 1880. During vacations he was active as colporteur for the American Tract Society, also in the city Mission work of the 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church, N. Y., two years.
In the year 1886 Brother Baer was ordained to the ministry by Rev. A. B. Shelly. It was in the same year that he joined in holy wedlock with Miss Jennie Roberts who, as a true helpmate shared with him the joys and sorrows of life.
He served as the efficient Home Missionary and Field Secretary of the General Conference, 15 years; as pastor of the St. John and Ebenezer churches, Bluffton, Ohio, 10 years; of the Mennonite Church Aberdeen, Idaho, 3 years, and of the Mennonite Church at Summerfield, Ill., 6 years.
Funeral services were held Aug. 23, in "Rest Home" at 1055 N. Kingsley Drive, Los Angeles, where Bro. Baer passed away. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Eugene Eyman. As a text appropriate passages were chosen from I Cor. 15 and I Thess. 4.
"And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea saith the Spirit that they may rest form their labors; and their works do follow them." Rev. 14:13.
